Classified as hazardous, Hydrofluorosilcic Acid, is the chemical used for fluoridation. The material's safety data sheet states: Ecotoxicity - Avoid contaminating waterways. Testing by Taupo District Council confirms that fluoride chemicals are entering the Hangarito stream that feeds Lake Taupo. Fluoride is toxic to the environment.  Watch this must see documentary on fluoride and the environment. Half a tonne of hydrofluorosilicic acid is added to the Turangi public water supply every year. Approximately 99% of it is flushed into Lake Taupo. The Council waste water Resource Consent does not specifically mention these hazardous chemicals. We are demanding that Taupo District Council stop toxic fluoride chemicals being added to Lake Taupo.
