A pesar de existir indicaciones de que no se use juegos pirotécnicos en Galápagos y de que en San Cristóbal la municipalidad dictó una prohibición, en Santa Cruz este fin de año se usó mucha pirotecnia. Esto afecta directamente a lo que hace de Galápagos un lugar único en el mundo: que los animales no le tienen miedo al ser humano.

El Ministro del Ambiente, Tarsicio Granizo, debe dictar un acuerdo ministerial prohibiendo terminantemente el transporte, tenencia y uso de juegos pirotécnicos en el archipiélago, e imponiendo fuertes sanciones a quienes violen estas disposiciones. Es urgente que Granizo también trabaje con el Consejo Gubernativo de Galápagos y todos los municipios para lograr eliminar la pirotecnia de las islas. Por favor firme la petición.

Radical prohibition of fireworks in Galapagos

In spite of some regulations over the use of fireworks in Galapagos, and in spite of the ban of the Municipality of San Cristobal of using them at the end of 2017, in another island, Santa Cruz, there was tremendous use of fireworks this New Year's Eve. This has a direct impact on the one item that makes Galapagos so unique: that the animals are not afraid of the human beings.

We are asking the Minister of Environment, Tarsicio Granizo, to issue a strict prohibition to ban the introduction, selling and usage of fireworks in the entire archipelago and impose strong sanctions to those who violate that decree. At the same time, it is urgent that Granizo works with the Gubernatorial Council of Galapagos and every municipality there to finish fireworks usage from the islands. Please sign the petition.
