So, for those who might not know yet…
Tamsoft Corporation (the Company behind the original Battle Arena Toshinden games) has reportedly reached an agreement with Edia back in October last year to bring back the first three titles in the series.
Yes, you heard that right!
We’re talking about:
- Battle Arena Toshinden 1
- Battle Arena Toshinden 2
- Battle Arena Toshinden 3
Now, while official details are still limited, there’s already a lot of speculation, and excitement about what this could mean.
These games could return as modern ports… or even full remasters, featuring:
- Improved graphics
- Smoother, cleaner gameplay
- Quality-of-life improvements
- And possibly even Rollback Netcode
And if all goes well, we might see them released on modern platforms like:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC (Steam and GOG)
The expected release window? Somewhere in 2026… or maybe early 2027.
Either way, it’s amazing to see this classic franchise potentially making a comeback!
Now… let me tell you about something even more personal.
As a longtime fan of Battle Arena Toshinden, I’ve always dreamed of an ultimate and modern Toshinden game featuring every character from the series.
And that’s exactly what I’ve been working on. I made this Petition of "Bring back Battle Arena Toshinden franchise" back in 2021, and now I made a "2026 Update" on it.
My game project is called Ultimate Battle Arena Toshinden
The idea is simple but powerful:
“Ultimate Battle Arena Toshinden”
- With Tekken 8 (PS5)-level graphics
- Art Style: similar to SoulCalibur games. For example: similar to the Art Style of SoulCalibur VI
- New Epic Intro (Opening)
Full Roster:
All characters from every Battle Arena Toshinden game (including Battle Arena Toshinden Remix and Battle Arena Toshinden URA), with multiple versions of each character. For example:
- Eiji (BAT1/Remix, BAT2/URA, BAT3) and Eiji BAT4
- Gaia BAT1/Remix, Gaia BAT2/URA, and Gaia BAT3
- Vermilion BAT2/URA, Vermilion BAT3, and Vermilion BAT4
- Fo BAT1/Remix, and Fo BAT2/URA
- Naru BAT3, and Naru BAT4
- Versions of other characters could be included as Costumes
Audio & Presentation:
- Sound effects from Battle Arena Toshinden 3
- All three character selection themes from Battle Arena Toshinden 3, plus the character selection theme from Battle Arena Toshinden 4, (maybe the character selection themes from Battle Arena Toshinden 1 and Battle Arena Toshinden 2 could be added was well), along with new ones
- Interface style (HUD) inspired by Battle Arena Toshinden 3 like Health bars, Overdrive meters (bars), and etc.
- Original Battle Arena Toshinden 3 announcer
- Elemental combat effects (Lightning/Yellow, Fire/Red, Ice/Blue) from Battle Arena Toshinden 3
Gameplay Features:
- Soul Bombs, Overdrives, Desperation Moves, and Secret Moves like you have in Battle Arena Toshinden 3 for all characters
- Improved gameplay and combo system - a mix of Battle Arena Toshinden 3, Soul Edge/Blade, SoulCalibur 1, SoulCalibur II, SoulCalibur III and SoulCalibur VI (gameplay more close to a SoulCalibur-style gameplay but without losing the essence of Battle Arena Toshinden’s gameplay)
- Better visual effects and color design (that color of move effects made by character's weapon)
- New camera angles
- New moves, more new combos, more new grabs (inspired by SoulCalibur games)
- Parry Duel system (like Soul Edge/Blade) or just that brief Parry made by the two weapons clashing at the same time (like SoulCalibur games)
- Replay feature after every battle (win or lose)
- Enhanced projectile clashes with improved animations and energy wave effects
Content:
- All Stages and themes from every Battle Arena Toshinden game
- New Stages and music
- More Costumes for all characters
Customization & Creation:
- Character customization (similar to SoulCalibur V, SoulCalibur VI, and Tekken 8)
- Full character creation mode, including selectable move effects, colors, movesets, combos, and powers
Game Modes
Returning Modes:
- Arcade Mode
- VS CPU
- VS Player
- Time Attack
- Survival
- Practice
- Team Battle (vs CPU and vs Player, like Battle Arena Toshinden 4)
- Team Time Attack and Team Survival
New Modes:
- Mission Battle (like SoulCalibur games)
- CPU vs CPU
- Team CPU vs Team CPU
- Expanded Team Battles (2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5)
- Example: You could create a team with two Eijis (since some versions of the characters are included)
Online Mode:
- Online battles with all modes available (all the modes above)
- Rollback Netcode
Additional Features:
- Art Gallery
- Exhibition Theater
- Online ranking system with global player rankings
DLC Plans:
- Characters from all Battle Arena Toshinden games including "Toshinden (Wii)/War Budokai" (included the Final Boss of that game)
Guest Characters:
- Cloud and Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII/Remake)
- Kasumi (Dead or Alive)
- Kilik and Setsuka (SoulCalibur)
- 2B (NieR: Automata)
- Eve (Stellar Blade)
Notes:
- All characters retain their original movesets but gain new additional moves, combos, grabs, and powers
- Stages can be played with or without walls (selectable after choosing a Stage)
Platforms:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC (Steam and GOG)
