Protect Children from COCSA: Raise awareness and education in Uk schools

Who is affected?
Child-on-child sexual assault (COCSA) is an issue that affects many children & young people across the UK,but remains largely unspoken. Numerous reports from students, parents and educators have revealed that many children and young people do not have the relevant knowledge and information to identify and respond to this form of abuse.Victims often feel isolated and confused they become unsure of how to speak out. With no formal education on healthy relationships, consent and boundaries.Children are left vulnerable to peer abuse without any idea of protecting themselves or others. If action is not taken, more children will continue to suffer in silence, unaware that what they are experiencing is not their fault.

What is at stake?

By not addressing COCSA in schools we risk perpetuating a cycle of abuse where children grow up without understanding their rights, their bodies, and how to maintain healthy relationships.Education can act as a preventative measure which will motivate children to recognise harmful behaviours.Children will learn to set boundaries, and to seek help when needed.Without education and support systems the emotional and psychological consequences for victims may be long lasting.

Why is now the time to act?

The time to act is now because children are already suffering. Reports from schools and communities demonstrate that this issue is not isolated and is widespread. It is crucial that the UK government and schools take immediate steps to involve COCSA awareness into the curriculum, providing children with the knowledge and support they need to protect themselves.Education can help prevent future abuse, break the silence and create a safer environment for every child in the UK. The longer we wait, the more children will be affected and the less likely they are to receive the help they need.

We call on the UK Government to take action by making COCSA education mandatory in schools and to guarantee that children will be educated about consent, healthy relationships and how to speak out.
