The Issue

The Blount County School district has recently allowed the Ten Commandments in public schools which is supporting religions such as Christianity and Judaism, while excluding others. This violates the First Amendment right which is “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment or religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” By this Amendment it is being violated without having the children being able to decide if they want that front and center in their schools. Which can cause problems such as exclusion, bullying, and conversion. The beauty of America has been built on this freedom and to have it violated goes against what our founding fathers stood for. As someone who attends a Blount County School I am worried for the future of my school and future students that don’t abide by the Ten Commandments.
