Have an Impact: Houston Plastic Straw Ban

The Issue

Plastic straw bans are continuing to be implemented- for good reason.

Plastic straws take up to 200 years to degrade, but because they are not biodegradable, they do not fully degrade. Plastic straws are littered everywhere on Earth and are a big part of a larger problem, our environments condition.

Not to mention how they affect our sea life. Each year, 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die from ingesting plastic. Recently, a whale was found dead with 40 kilograms of plastic in it's stomach.

We currently have 12 years for global warming to not completely destroy Earth's ecosystems. Let us help our planet.

I'm making a petition as a school project for my home, Houston, Texas. I'm hoping by convincing Sylvester Turner (Mayor of Houston) to ban plastic straws from businesses that sell or serve food items using plastic straws, I can lower our bad impact on the environment and start a bigger movement for more cities all over the world to follow in suit.
