Stop the proposed property development of the Oatlands Golf Club

The issue

*UPDATE: We have been informed that the vote will take place on the 8th of December - please sign the petition but also email the Hon. Dr Lee who is the local member of parliament at parramatta@parliament.nsw.gov.au with an email OBJECTING to these proposed plans*

On February 1, 2020, a drunk/drugged driver fatally struck Abdallah siblings Sienna (8), Angelina (12) and Antony (13) and their cousin Veronique Sakr (11) on the footpath next to the Oatlands Golf Club.

Earlier this year, the families approached the Oatlands Golf Club with a proposal for a memorial garden, which was rejected.  Now the community has learned that the Oatlands Golf Club has submitted a proposal to the Sydney Central City Planning Panel, seeking approval to build 193 residential apartments, 2 level club house, associated car park and landscaping on the same Bettington Road side of the golf course that the memorial garden was rejected. The development documents show that the club is going to remove the current 18th hole and realign the 12th hole. However, the club dismissed the memorial plans saying that they were too elaborate and would unnecessarily remind neighbors and the first responders of the tragedy. At the time of the memorial proposal, the club said the size, scale and indemnity of the memorial were considered in the decision.

If these proposed development plans weren’t a gut punch to the families enough, the community has also learned that the Club has approached it’s members for a vote on these new plans - however, when the families asked for a members’ vote on the commemorative garden, they were told no.

We have put this petition together to show the Sydney Central City Planning Panel that the community of Oatlands has had enough of these immoral decisions that aren’t community minded or focused. We do not what this 193 apartment (5 new buildings) development to go ahead as it’s cold hearted towards the grieving families and our community. The Oatlands Golf Club should be ashamed of their continued blatant lack of empathy and sympathy.
