Swimming compulsory to Primary school students | Vadodara tragedy

The Issue

On 18th Jan, '24, 27 children and 2 teachers were on a school picnic riding a boat in a lake in Vadodara. The overloaded boat tumbled and 14 children including 2 teachers died because of drowning.

In Bharat (India) Every year, 38,000 people die of drowning. Most of them are 5 to 14 years age. Making the learning of swimming compulsory to the primary level school students will reduce the risk of death due to drowning in any type of water body. There are also other advantages.

  1. No risk of death due to drowning in any water body like river, pond or sea.
  2.  Swimming is a very good exercise for fitness. It generates stamina, good for respiratory system and over all well being.
  3. Swimming is also an olympic level sport in which Bharat lacks winning candidates due to lack of awareness even in 140cr population. Swimming is a skill and a sport which will produce international level athletes to bring glory to our country.
