Creation of an Environmental Impact Label for food and drink products.

Creation of an Environmental Impact Label for food and drink products.
The issue
My name is Alex Wesley and I am calling for change.
I am requesting that the government of Australia allow the ability for an Environmental Impact Star Rating Label (The Impact Label) to be placed on any brand of food or drink that the company in charge of it wishes to. In the same way that companies can choose to add a health star rating to their food and drink products.
The reason for this is that we are not taking climate change seriously enough, and that by adding an environmental impact star rating label it will encourage consumers to buy products wisely. It will also encourage companies to prove that they are doing more for the betterment of the environment. It may also encourage more local produce buying, which is better for local communities, and better for each nation state.
One of the goals of the Paris climate agreement is too strengthen transparency and accountability networks, and I believe this is one way to achieve that goal.
According to a study from 2018, food production accounts for 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions
We therefore ask the House to debate as a matter of compliance, not only with the Paris Climate Agreement, but with the wants and needs for a more informed society to purchase goods that comply with our desire for a more sustainable future, and for a future lead by companies that are working in our interests, and not solely for the want of profit. The agreement has been made to introduce a health star rating, and the environmental impact rating is for the health of the planet, and for future generations.
Please sign the petition to allow this to be debated in parliament
Thank you
