The Issue

The Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) process, initiated by Surrey County Council, has raised grave concerns among residents, including myself. My connection to this stems from the fact that the LGR was entered into unilaterally by our council, even while boroughs within the county are weighed down by billions of pounds in debt. This financial burden alone signifies the inappropriateness of the LGR process for Surrey.

Legal experts have raised concerns, and these challenges must be resolved transparently before any further steps are taken.

Further compounding this issue, there have been public reports and statistics indicating that hurried governmental restructuring ,without completely addressing current debts, can lead to severe economic fallout. According to reports by credible organisations, restructuring under debt-ridden conditions has previously led other regions into deeper financial crises and even greater mismanagement.

I urge the decision-makers to suspend the LGR process in Surrey and call upon Surrey residents to support this cause. Let's prevent hasty financial decisions that could lay the groundwork for long-term issues for Surrey's residents.
