The Issue

Living in a property riddled with black mould and pink bacterial mould was a nightmare I hoped would end. Tragically, this toxic environment caused me to lose my therapy dog that was only 2 years old, a loss that is immeasurable and devastating. Despite the Housing Ombudsman's instructions in 2023 to rectify the issues, I recently discovered that the supposed repairs were nothing but cosmetic fixes. The internal damages, exacerbated by an internal soil pipe breaking from three floors above that came directly into my home internally and left for 3 years, before they tried to fix and ordered by the Housing Ombudsman's oder in 2023 were merely concealed behind a plasterboard that persisted for three agonizing years before the ombudsman had powers to act in 2023 then to find out the this new information was only found out due to horrid smell coming into the property and the death of my dog who already had an injury and died of an attack from an unknow bacteria was only found out at the end of last year 2025 when the Awaab’s law was came into legal grounds 27 October 2025 and there isn't anything within Awaab’s law to safeguard animals health and wellbeing even the animal welfare act 2006 was ignored by the Housing department.

The black and pink mould is still in the property to this date and now starting to affect our other dogs and the Housing just ignoring there duty of care anf the animal welfare act and ou case is still awaiting to be delt with by the Housing Ombudsman but they already had the files and new evidence so they could put a case together before we got a final response which we now have but all serious parts are missing or Unanswered or told there not part of the Awaab’s law when in fact they are when you look into the laws and legislation surrounding it.

Awaab’s law was instituted to prevent such housing negligence, ensuring swift and proper remediation of hazardous living conditions. However, enforcement wait times are unacceptably long, leaving many like me trapped in unsafe environments. Immediate suspension of any staff discouraging or failing to adhere to Awaab’s law is imperative. These individuals hinder progress, delay justice, and perpetuate the suffering of tenants enduring deplorable conditions and there pets and trying to say its not serious enough to be done under Awaab’s law which is incorrect so he suspension of staff untill they have the correct knowledge or training regarding these laws that are lawful instead of making every excuses up not to help then our local councils are meant to have more enforcement, but they too just brushed it under the carpet and tell us they dont have any enforcement powers which against is incorrect so better training is crucial in these areas when it's affecting all living beings.

This petition calls for tangible action: an overhaul of enforcement processes to ensure that they are timely and effective. Regular audits should be conducted to avoid half-measures that place tenants at risk. Let us hold housing authorities accountable and safeguard future tenants from similar neglect.

Most cases can't be acted on by the Housing Ombudsman until 3 to 6 months but by then health conditions have deteriorated our belongings destroyed and our mental well-being majorly being affected. As the amount of cases the Housing Ombudsman have is very overwhelming for them as these are so many cases which is why it take to long for them to address and suspending staff that ignore these matters need better training and discipline to finally put a strip to this negligence.

Your signature is a step toward ensuring that Awaab’s law is upheld, and that no more lives are put at risk due to bureaucratic delays and negligence. Please sign this petition to demand immediate reform and accountability in housing enforcement practices.
