Aurangabad Needs Regional Passport Office

Aurangabad Needs Regional Passport Office
The Issue
Aurangabad is the Divisional Head Quarter for Marathwada Region and consists of eight Revenue Districts of Maharashtra. Considering the city importance for industries, trade, tourism and education, the numbers of persons travelling abroad is growing every year. Passport Office in Aurangabad is need of hour.
Aurangabad had a passport office, through which manual applications used to be accepted, but it was closed down upon the orders from the regional passport office, Mumbai in January 2013 after online application process was initiated to issue passports.
Besides being the tourism capital of Maharashtra, the city of Aurangabad is one of the metros figured in Centre's Smart City mission. Therefore, it deserves dedicated passport office.A large number of applicants are facing inconvenience due to the absence of a facility here. Haj pilgrims and those applying for higher studies abroad often face problems while applying for passports. They have to go to the Mumbai/Nagpur office every time and this is costly. An independent office in the city will be convenient for people across eight adjoining districts in the region. Around 15 lakh domestic and 50,000 foreign tourists visit the city every year.
While on one hand issuing passport has becoming hassle-free and speedy process across the country, on other hand applicants from Aurangabad and nearby areas have been facing mounting difficulties in getting important document.
