The current and past strategies of the government to prevent domestic violence have not yielded the required outcomes. Therefore, we beseech the Australian Government to enact the 'SURVIVORS LAW', focusing on preventive measures, tougher penalties for offenders, and the provision of healing support for survivors and their families. This is not a law based on gender this is a law based on protecting all Australians from those in need.

We ask for solidarity, strength, and swift action to end the violence against women and children but in general to enable all those in need of protecting and afraid to step forward to allow them the safety to have a voice without fear of retribution.

Female lives are lost in Australia at an alarming rate every year, with numbers, increasing each year. The current and previous government structures have not been effective in assisting.

Between the years 2012 and 2018, Australia sadly lost 80 males to one-punch violent incidents. The Australian Government rightly acted and changed the laws, this was over a six year period.

So why the has nothing changed to assist women and children or anyone in DV situations? If we look at the number of women alone that were stolen to violence in 2024 it was 104, in ONE YEAR! AS AT THE 30TH OF APRIL 2025 THERE HAVE BEEN 24 KNOWN FEMALES STOLEN TO VIOLENCE.

(Just for clarity: In relation to DV according to aihw website on average, one woman loses her life every 11 days and one male every 91 days these are to an intimate partner - these numbers are based on the years of 2022/2023). Let's be clear ONE PERSON, IS ONE PERSON TOO MANY!!

WE MUST DO SOMETHING NOW!

What is 'SURVIVORS LAW'?

The Apprehended Violence Orders (IVO/AVO/PSIO/DVO/FVIO, we will refer to them as IVO) as they currently stand, do not work. They must be stronger and unified Australia-Wide!

It is well known that many perpetrators stalk their victims. Many of these perpetrators also have IVO's or Bail Orders, and they breach them!

This includes manipulating their victims whilst continuing to stalk, intimidate, coercive control, abuse, and even sadly kill their victims. Often, victims are left to fend for themselves, having to protect their children go in to hiding, have to prove they are not the perpetrator they the one being victimised and stalked. They are even often defamed online have their profiles copied, shared including ruining in many cases their livelihood and careers all at the hands of a perpetrator. Victims are left having to try and prove time and again that they are the victim and not the perpetrator and they are the ones being stalked, with authorities or others victim-blaming them until the unthinkable happens.

Perpetrators have long been able to easily follow their victims using various means, including mobile phones, social-media, airtags, websites, etc.. It isn't that difficult nor is it expensive this is why they do it! Perpetrators often stop at nothing! Perpetrators breach IVO's and Bail orders over and over with little to no consequence.

THIS HAS TO STOP!

WE must flip the narrative! It could be as simple as ONE BREACH, and the perpetrator must wear an ankle monitor! HOWEVER, we propose that this must be monitored by a security company specifically designed and designated for these situations!

If these perpetrators can so easily stalk their victims and take away their freedoms this is what should be happening to them, the perpetrator! If the perpetrator is a true perpetrator, this will soon prove how dangerous they are, except this will SAVE LIVES!

This must be rolled out nationwide!

We urge the system to respond and assist Australians safety NOW!

We understand some may say they didn't deserve the IVO, then this won't affect you. Assuming you do not intend on causing harm or breaching bail or IVO's, then you won't have anything to worry about. This is going to monitor those that are serious dangers with intent, and IT WILL SAVE LIVES!

WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

In conclusion we repeat:

Domestic violence continues to claim lives at an alarming rate in Australia. In 2024 alone, 104 women were stolen due to violence. As of 30th April 2025, there have already been 24 known female victims.

The current Apprehended Violence Orders and Bail Laws are ineffective. Perpetrators often breach these orders, continuing to stalk, intimidate, and harm their victims.

We need stronger, unified laws nationwide.

We propose that any breach of an IVO or Bail conditions should result in the perpetrator wearing an ankle monitor. This should be monitored by a dedicated security company. This measure will help protect victims and SAVE LIVES!

THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT OF THE NUMBERS DISCUSSED ON THIS PETITION AND THE LOSS OF ANY PERSON IN AUSTRALIA IS SOME OF THESE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF WE HAD THIS LAW IN PLACE 'SURVIVORS LAWS' AS SO MANY OF THESE PEOPLE LOST THEIR LOVED ONES DUE TO PERPETRATORS BREACHING THEIR IVO OR BAIL ORDERS!
