Equality Before Law — Not Selective Enforcement
The Concern
In practice, enforcement of law often appears uneven.
When violations involve powerful or influential actors →
Delayed, diluted, or uncertain accountability
When ordinary citizens are affected or err →
Immediate enforcement or years of litigation
Why This Matters
India’s growth story is written primarily by its citizens —
workers, entrepreneurs, professionals, small businesses, and families.
Their contribution to economic growth, social stability, and national progress
far exceeds the protection they experience under law.
Democratic Reality
Persistent disparities in enforcement:
Erode public trust
Increase citizen distress
Contribute to low happiness and confidence indices
Unequal application of law weakens the legitimacy of governance itself.
Core Constitutional Principle
Article 14 — Equality Before Law
Law must operate uniformly,
without regard to wealth, influence, or social dominance.
Justice cannot differ between:
The powerful, and
The ordinary citizen.
Public Interest Appeal
A strong and stable nation requires:
Uniform enforcement of rules
Equal accountability across all classes
Effective protection of citizens from exploitation and harassment
Reform is not anti-government.
Reform strengthens the State and restores public trust.
Clear Demand
One Nation.
One Law.
One Standard of Justice.
