The Duke of Edinburgh's Award charity wants to see the Government back young people and commit to an enrichment guarantee as part of the National Youth Strategy.

The United Kingdom faces a pressing issue: it has the lowest average life satisfaction scores for 15-year-olds in Europe, this generation of young people are more anxious than any generation before them and almost a million young individuals are not engaged in education, employment, or training – with countless others feeling unprepared for work and life in general.

These concerning statistics underline the urgent need for the Government to implement an Enrichment Guarantee within their National Youth Strategy. An Enrichment Guarantee would ensure that all young people have access to positive activities and experiences, supported by trusted adults, that foster personal development, confidence and resilience, and prepare them for adult life.

As part of this Guarantee, the Government needs to prioritise funding and support for local youth organisations, after-school programmes, and mentorship initiatives that can make a real difference in the lives of young people. Additionally, community partnerships should be strengthened to create a robust network of support for our young people. This will build stronger foundations for future generations, enabling them to thrive in an ever-changing world.

With proper backing, an Enrichment Guarantee will not only equip young people with essential life skills but also improve their mental health by connecting them with positive activities. It's a crucial step in nurturing a generation that is confident, capable, and ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
