Support the Supreme Court’s Order — and Ensure Humane Sheltering for Stray Dogs
The Issue
The Issue
In recent months, there has been a distressing rise in dog‑bite incidents across Delhi‑NCR, with children among the most affected. Rabies—a fatal disease—continues to pose a real threat. The Supreme Court, in its judgment dated August 11, 2025, ruled that stray dogs must be removed from our streets and placed in proper shelters, citing public safety and delayed returns from sterilization programs. This decision reflects an urgent need to protect our communities.
However, relocation must not mean neglect. Without humane, well‑regulated shelters, stray dogs risk substandard care—and we can’t allow that to happen.
Why This Matters
Public safety is paramount. Thousands of people, especially children, are at risk from unvaccinated, roaming stray dogs. The Court’s directive is a decisive step toward safeguarding families and public spaces.
Shelters offer hope—not suffering. Yet, many existing shelters are already overcrowded, underfunded, and understaffed. If dogs are removed but not properly housed, they may suffer anxiety, malnutrition, or worse. We must build facilities that uphold compassion as much as they do safety.
We can do better—together. By combining prompt removal with compliant shelter standards, we protect both humans and animals.
What We’re Calling For
We urge judicial and civic authorities to act swiftly—and humanely—on the Supreme Court’s order by:
1. Establishing shelters that meet or exceed ABC Rules standards, including:
Adequate space per animal, clean enclosures, and humane treatment.
Regular veterinary care: vaccinations, sterilization, and health monitoring.
Skilled, trained staff to handle rescue, care, and adoption.
Transparent oversight—periodic audits to ensure rule compliance.
2. Implementing emergency-response systems, such as helplines that:
React quickly to dog-bite incidents (within 4 hours).
Coordinate with shelters and rescue teams for swift action.
3. Allocating necessary funding and resources, including:
Budget allocations for new shelter infrastructure and maintenance.
Hiring and training veterinary and humane care professionals.
Community outreach to encourage adoption and responsible care.
Join Us in This Balanced Solution
By standing behind the Supreme Court’s mandate—with the compassion and planning it demands—we can save lives and protect our stray dog population. Sign this petition to ensure that nowhere in Delhi‑NCR a stray dog is removed without being guaranteed a safe, humane shelter that aligns with legal and ethical standards.
