Great news... At this morning's meeting the SDG council, after receiving our petition, as well as numerous emails from concerned residents, decided that they need to hear voices from both sides on the roadside tree planting program. Consequently, they agreed to hold a special meeting on April 7th from 6-10 pm at Council Offices (26 PItt Street, Cornwall) to solicit public input from both farmers and  other local residents. So the campaign is working! And this special meeting will be the perfect place to present an updated copy of the petition, along with all the comments.

Now, we need to share the petition more widely than ever--with friends,  family and social media. With a little work we could easily reach 1000 signatures by the the special meeting. With a lot of work maybe 2000! The petition is also an excellent place to consolidate comments from the community as to why they support the roadside tree planting--and even to encourage council to expand the program.

In addition to our petition, which had 723 names on it when it was added to the council's agenda,  councillors mentioned receiving numerous emails from concerned residents of SDG in support of the roadside tree planting. These emails came from commuters and even some farmers who spoke to the advantages of the windbreaks. So council has been listening! I encourage all of you to send emails to council with your own unique perspective and concerns on this issue and--if you have time--try to make it out for the April 7th special meeting at 26 Pitt Street.
