Across the world, everyone recognizes the importance of autonomy and dignity in death as equally as in life. Currently, many terminally ill patients suffer needlessly due to restrictions or outright bans on medically assisted suicide. According to a well-regarded report published by The Lancet in 2017, countries where assisted suicide is legal report lower overall suicide rates, providing evidence against the claim that assisted suicide would lead to more suicides in the general population.
