The Issue

I, Ted Banick, had the privilege of owning and running Teddy O'Brian's, our beloved local tavern—a true cornerstone of our community in Highwood for 22 years.  After a 4-year hiatus, I would like to reestablish 432 Sheridan Road as the preeminent spot for live music, good food and great times. This was more than just a place to enjoy a drink; it was a hub for social gatherings, community events, lasting friendships and the best live music in the northern suburbs. It was a place where locals felt at home, and visitors were always welcomed with open arms.

Unfortunately, I am now facing a critical hurdle in reopening the doors: obtaining city approval. Despite the tavern's longstanding presence, positive impact within our community and full support of the property owners, bureaucratic challenges are preventing me from reviving this cherished establishment.

The tavern provided not only a space for relaxation and enjoyment but also contributed to the local economy by creating jobs and supporting other local businesses. It served as a venue for celebrations, cultural events and a simple night out with friends, strengthening the fabric of our community through shared experiences and camaraderie.

Our goal is simple yet vital: to cut through the red tape, engage in a conversation and gain the necessary city approval to reopen our tavern.  Despite following the advised steps to begin the process, my repeated attempts to communicate with the powers that be have gone unanswered. I am committed to working closely with city officials, ensuring that all regulations are met while preserving the charm and welcoming atmosphere that has always defined Teddy O's.

We call upon the local community and supporters from surrounding areas to rally behind our cause. Your support is crucial in demonstrating to decision-makers the importance of the tavern to the community and the demand for its reopening.  There is a Highwood city council meeting on Tuesday, May 19th at 6:00pm.  It would send a strong message and be a great show of support to have as many advocates in attendance as possible.

By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for the revival of a beloved community icon, the retention of local jobs, and the continuation of a gathering place that holds so much history and heart for all who crossed its threshold.

Please join us in this effort to bring back a place filled with memories, laughter, community spirit and unparrelled live music. Your signature could make all the difference in showing city officials that reopening the tavern is not just a business interest but a community necessity.

Sign the petition and help us unlock the doors to our shared past and vibrant future.
