We are deeply disappointed that planning delays have stalled the progress of our much-anticipated outdoor gym for Margate. These delays have deprived our community of the significant health benefits that come with having access to a free outdoor gym, particularly in a town where such facilities are desperately needed.

The idea for the outdoor gym was born when local resident Stef approached us with a concern that resonated with many. Stef had to travel to Broadstairs to access free outdoor workout equipment, something that should be readily available here in Margate. Inspired by his experience, we set out to provide a similar facility at The Oval, ensuring that our community could enjoy the same benefits without the inconvenience of travelling.

Thanet Council has been commendable in delivering a wellbeing classes to our community, funded by the Margate Town Deal. However, not everyone can or wants to attend structured classes. Many residents would benefit from having access to an outdoor gym where they can work out at their own pace and on their own schedule. Unfortunately, bureaucratic obstacles have delayed this project, preventing our community from enjoying the health benefits they deserve.

Recent health statistics paint a concerning picture of our local community. Cliftonville West and Margate rank among the areas with the poorest health outcomes in the region. According to the latest data, Cliftonville West has one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease and obesity in Thanet This makes the need for accessible fitness facilities more urgent than ever. It is unacceptable that these facilities are being withheld from our community due to ongoing delays in our planning application.

We have worked tirelessly with experienced health and wellbeing trainers to design a gym that caters to a range of abilities. The equipment will include both calisthenics and fixed apparatus, all nestled within an accessible garden of the senses. This gym is not just a fitness space; it is a community hub designed to promote health, wellbeing, and inclusivity.

We need your support to overcome these delays and bring a gym to Margate. Please help us by signing our petition on Change.org. Together, we can give our community the chance to improve their health and wellbeing with the facilities they deserve. Let's not allow red tape to stand in the way of a healthier, happier Margate.
