Support the Mural at Robert Mason Field
The Issue
Hello Golden Gate Neighbors!
Over the last year, many of you have participated in weekly neighborhood clean-ups. At least once a month, these efforts are focused around Robert Mason Fields, the baseball field at San Pablo and 62nd St. We've been clearing overgrown vegetation, weeding and pruning the plants facing San Pablo, and collecting countless bags of trash. And the field is looking great!
This year Golden Gate Neighborhood Council received a grant from Keep Oakland Beautiful for improvement projects. Based on some community surveys done by the Golden Gate Community Association, which showed very high resident support for public art projects, we have chosen to use our funds to commission a mural in our neighborhood.
We've chosen Robert Mason Field as the site of the mural. Here is the site where we want to paint the mural. It faces San Pablo Ave, so people walking by can enjoy the art, as well as people using the baseball field.

This is what the backstop would like like with the mural

The image in the heading is the rendering for the proposed mural by local muralist Elaine Ponce. The mural features local birds (crows, herons, pigeons) amid a backdrop of the Bay Bridget and the Oakland docks.
Because our mural site is city-owned property, we have to go through a very involved review and approval process with Oakland Parks & Rec and the Public Art Advisory Committee. Part of the application we have to submit asks for letters of support from the local community. THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN!
Please sign this petition, expressing your support for the mural at Robert Mason Fields. Anyone can sign the petition, but it would be most impactful if you are a resident of the neighborhood. So please make sure you add in your address (city, state, zip code) when you sign the petition. We need all that 94608 love!
If you have questions, you can email goldengatenc10x@gmail.com.
THANK YOU!!!!
