Support the Macdonald Mini-Fields Project for temporary soccer
The Issue
For 15 long years, a piece of prime city-owned land in downtown Richmond has remained vacant in the heart of Richmond, California. This chronic vacancy not only reflects the neglect and missed opportunities for our community but exacerbates the serious issues we're facing, including unsightly blight, increasing vacancies in downtown and rising vandalism. But there is hope.
The Macdonald Mini-Fields Project by the Richmond United Soccer Club proposes to transform this unused land into a vibrant and dynamic space by developing temporary soccer fields in time for the FIFA World Cup. Soccer is a universal language of enthusiasm and teamwork. By activating this site for youth and community soccer programs, we create a central hub of activity and joy, strategically located and easily accessible by BART, Amtrak, buses, and highways. This vision aims to foster community spirit while attracting foot traffic that would undoubtedly benefit small local businesses crying out for support.
Moreover, the upcoming FIFA World Cup presents an unparalleled opportunity to put our neighborhood on the map for something positive, driving interest and investment into our community. However, time is of the essence.
