Subject: Comprehensive Strategy to Combat Antisemitism and Uphold Canadian Values

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau and Esteemed Members of the Federal
Government,

As concerned Jewish citizens from across the country, we write to you regarding the critical and escalating issue of antisemitism in Canada. The recent surge in hate crimes and antisemitic acts, from violent incidents in educational institutions to public attacks, poses a significant threat not only to the Jewish community but to the core values of our nation.

The concerns raised by former Canadian Senator Jerry Grafstein highlight an alarming reality. The attacks on Jewish communities, including shootings at schools, firebombing of synagogues, and vandalism in peaceful neighborhoods, are not only shocking but also intolerable in a society that prides itself on tolerance, diversity, and safety.

In response to this disturbing trend, we propose a comprehensive strategy comprising immediate and long-term actions including four of former Senator Grafstein’s recent recommendations:

1. Swift Action Against Incitement to Violence: The government must promptly respond to any form of incitement to violence, led by the ministers responsible for the rule of law.
2. Stronger Support for Law Enforcement: Enhanced collaboration with provincial law enforcement officials is essential to support our overwhelmed police forces.
3. Amendments to the Criminal Code: Consider necessary amendments to the Criminal Code to tackle incitement to violence and the use of disguises during rallies.
4. Promotion of National Unity and International Solidarity: A visit to Israel by you and opposition party leaders, similar to your visits to Ukraine, would demonstrate Canada's commitment to combating antisemitism globally.

Additionally:

1. Cease Funding for UNRWA: We urge an immediate cessation of Canadian financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) until it aligns with the principles of peace and coexistence, ceasing the dissemination of hate-filled content.
2. Designation of the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) should be officially recognized as a terrorist organization by Canada, in line with our commitment to combat global extremism.

3. Legislation Against Glorifying Terrorism: Reinstate laws making it illegal to glorify or endorse terrorist organizations. This will help create a secure environment for all Canadians.
4. Recognition of Hate Speech Slogans: Recognize slogans that implicitly call for the destruction of Israel and the genocide of the Jewish population as hate speech under Canadian law including ‘From the river to the sea,’ calls for ‘Intifada’ and ‘justifying resistance.’

These measures, coupled with a concerted effort to enhance legal opportunities for victims of hate crimes, including legislation that allows for the prosecution of state sponsors of terrorism, are crucial steps towards a safer, more inclusive Canada and solidarity with Israel.

We trust in your leadership and commitment to address these immense concerns with the urgency and seriousness they deserve. Our goal is not merely policy change but the protection of our nation's fundamental values and the safety of its citizens.
