Support the Effort to Demilitarize WPI

The Issue

We want WPI to divest from Elbit Systems of America as they are an Israeli arms manufacturer which is involved in numerous world conflicts. A company such as them should not have any platform at WPI.

We are not the first university to call for this.

Why Elbit Systems is a morally corrupt company

Other petitions against Elbit Systems

Those who sign agree with the following statement:

“We, the undersigned, condemn the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza being committed by the settler state of Israel. We affirm that our university, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, is complicit in this genocide through its investments in and recruitment for weapons manufacturing companies. Unless the WPI administration follows the demands of the current divestment campaign, the following names and signatures of the graduating class of 2024 and alums will withhold all future donations, recommendations, or any advertisement for WPI.

We recognize that the salaries of the employees of the Career Development Center are primarily supplemented by companies that go to our career fairs, like Raytheon and BAE Systems. This business model makes our career fairs biased toward the defense industry. To make sure that our career fairs are not saturated with war profiteers, donations will only be given if the money transparently, exclusively, and explicitly goes towards the salaries of the CDC employees.”

The current demands of the divestment campaign at WPI are as follows:

  1. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will cut ties with Elbit Systems of America and its subsidiaries. They should not be at our career fairs, present as a speaker at any event, or advertised on this campus.
    • WPI will explicitly say that they are doing so to comply with the demands of their students who cite the various global atrocities that Elbit Systems is involved in as grounds for divestment.
  2. WPI will divest from war profiteers with strong ties to the genocidal apartheid state of Israel including but not limited to RTX  and its subsidiaries, BAE Systems, and Lockheed Martin.
    • WPI will withdraw from all investments, contracts, and partnerships with the aforementioned genocidal companies.
