Support the fun and educational treetop adventure course for Norwalk's Cranbury Park!

The Issue

Please support the proposal for an educational, eco-friendly, and fun treetop adventure course in Cranbury Park, described in this video here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsmQgzkpDx8

The course will take about 2.5 hours to traverse, and will include rope walks and zip lines high up in the tree canopy.  It is constructed to avoid wetland areas and will not harm the forest or individual trees. Some trees will need trimming for safety reasons but essentially the forest will remain intact which is the whole point of the experience.   It will be fully reversible, and it will use about 5 acres of treetop canopy with about a quarter-acre of space needed on the ground in the 225-acre park.

The course will be located deep into the woods and will not be visible from nearby residential areas or Cranbury School, which are at least 500 feet away.  There will be no music or lights, and the course will operate from 9 AM to 3 hours before sunset from April through November.

Impacts from traffic and noise will be minimal. It will take a maximum of 14 people every half hour by online reservation, generating about 5 cars per half hour at peak times. Generally there will be 10 to 15 cars at any given time that will be parked in the main parking lot in the existing gated area of the park.

The company "Go Ape" has 12 successful locations in public parks around the country, and is a leader in the industry on safety. They have made a proposal for Cranbury Park seen here:

http://www.norwalkct.org/DocumentCenter/View/9012

This proposal will not cost Norwalk taxpayers anything to install, and they will indemnify the city from any liability. The proposal is estimated to generate between $20,000 and $150,000 per year (based on a percentage of their gross revenue) back to the city to help offset park maintenance and projects including much-needed trail maintenance and native habitat restoration.

This proposal is a win/win for the City of Norwalk, and will provide a unique educational and recreational experience that will enhance both the park and the city.
