Many have been personally afflicted by the fatal health impacts in our Port Arthur area, tragically losing family members and friends to cancer and other diseases induced by harmful, carcinogenic pollutants. This story is mine, but I am not alone. A change in our approach to environment is needed. We cannot stand by allowing more lives to be claimed. The Diligence Renewable Wind Energy Project on Pleasure Island presents an opportunity for us to stop this cycle and provide a cleaner, healthier future for our children—a future free from the invisible enemy of air pollution.

By supporting this initiative, we are investing in renewable, wind energy—an energy source that eliminated over 198 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in the United States in 2019 alone, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. This is equivalent to taking 42.7 million cars off the road for a year.

Turning this project into a reality would meaningfully lessen our community’s carbon footprint, reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, and above all, improve health outcomes by curbing air pollution. The children of today deserve to inherit a healthier environment and a sustainable way of life.
