Support The Current Kuumba Centre Management!

Keep Kuumba Centre Run By The Community For The Community!

Please sign this petition to help support the current management of the Kuumba centre.

The Bristol City Council has asked the current management of the Kuumba Centre to vacate the premises, for reasons that the board and a public meeting of over 100 community members do not feel is justified!

The centre is in the heart of St Pauls, Bristol and for the last 12 years the current management has been running it without funding and as volunteers for the whole community. The centre was originally given to Bristol’s Rastafari community back in the mid-1970s. The centre went on to become a vibrant community hub and was a large output of African and Caribbean arts across the southwest.

If the council brings in a new management team it would change the whole identity of the centre, the history and legacy of what Kuumba stands for, which is central to everything they do. The aspirations of the current management is to keep raising the profile of centre and encouraging community involvement, thus creating and supporting ongoing services and activities for the local community.

Some of the past and present projects that have been at the centre are - Two Way Street BME Mental Health and Well Being CIC, Places for People Housing, Life 2020 CIC, Urban Minds Wellbeing Services CIC, Creative Power Town, Capoeira Dance Group, As It Is TV, Yam and Banana Studio, Run Come Down Studio, Young people Dance Group, Imani Education Project for Young People (new), Grassroots Music Studio, Local Talents, Kuumba Live Open Mic, Reggae Roots Nights, Private Parties, Community Meetings, etc.

We give thanks for the support and solidarity Kuumba Centre is currently receiving. If you would like further information on how you can support please contact - kuumbacentremedia@gmail.com or 07415 197129
