Support the Creation of Boston’s Road Safety Commission

The Issue

Boston’s approach to bike lane construction is failing. Too many projects are being rushed through without proper planning, expert guidance, or meaningful community input. Residents, businesses, emergency services, and cyclists themselves are raising serious concerns, but so far, the city has not changed course. That’s why we at Pedal Safe Boston support the ordinance recently introduced by Councilor Ed Flynn. The bill would:

• Pause all new bike lane construction until a real master plan is developed

• Create a Road Safety and Community Engagement Commission to guide future projects

• Bring in an independent engineering firm with national expertise in urban infrastructure

• Collect annual data and feedback from Boston residents and neighborhoods

• Require a transparent process with timelines, safety evaluations, and clear public review

• Allow for unsafe or poorly designed lanes to be reevaluated and improved or removed

You can read the full text of the ordinance here.

This petition is a chance for residents across Boston to show their support for this ordinance. By signing, you're urging the City Council to pass the bill and calling on the mayor to respect the voices of the people who live and travel in these neighborhoods every day.

Sign your name to help send a clear, united message: Boston deserves safer streets, real community input, and infrastructure that works for everyone. When signing, please include your neighborhood and zip code so that we can show the city that every section of Boston is united on this.

Please include your neighborhood and zip code to prove that every corner of Boston is demanding safer streets and smarter planning.
