We call on the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia to reconsider the proposed Blue CAT BUSPORT route adjustment to provide improved free CAT bus access which is currently un-serviced  by the CAT Bus network in the southeastern section of East Perth and the Perth CBD.

The proposed route would improve connections between Barrack Square, Point Fraser/Boorloo Bridge, Riverside Drive, Adelaide Terrace, St Georges Terrace, the CBD and Northbridge.  

Under the proposal, the existing Blue CAT BUSPORT service would leave Barrack Square, travel eastbound Riverside Drive to the first stop at Point Fraser/Boorloo Bridge, continue onto Adelaide Terrace, St Georges Terrace, with additional stops along the route, before reconnecting with its existing service at Barrack Street/Hay Street Mall continuing onto with its Northbridge/Busport route.

This area is home to thousands of residents, hotels/short term accommodation (approx 2500 rooms), businesses and hospitality venues and is also used by workers, tourists, visitors and approximately 4500 people crossing the Boorloo Bridge daily.   

Improved CAT bus access would:

• provide a clear and convenient free public transport connection;
• improve access between southeastern East Perth, the CBD and Northbridge;
• better support tourists, visitors, local hotels and businesses;
• improve accessibility for older people, families and people with limited mobility;
• support access to Langley Park and major events; and
• reduce reliance on private vehicles, taxis and rideshare services.
• improve cross-river connectivity between Victoria Park, East Perth and the Perth CBD by providing a direct free CAT connection to the western end of Boorloo Bridge at Point Fraser.
• The City of Perth previously supported approaching the PTA regarding this proposal however, the proposal was not supported by the PTA.

We believe this significant gap in the CAT bus network should be reconsidered.

We call on the PTA to work with the City of Perth and the community to provide a re-routing of the existing Blue CAT BUSPORT service to this currently un-serviced section of East Perth and the Perth CBD.
