Support the addition of a community soccer field
The Issue
Bring a Safe, Multi-Use Soccer Field to Al’s Park
We are gathering support from Ladd Park residents for a proposal that would make our existing common green space more useful for children, teenagers, adults, and families.
The proposed location is Al’s Park at 556 Avon River Road. The project would add professional soccer field lines and two commercial-grade, 7 x 21-foot soccer goals.
A flexible space for the entire neighborhood
This would not turn Al’s Park into a single-use or competitive soccer complex. The goals have wheels, would remain under HOA control, and could be moved by authorized personnel for mowing, maintenance, HOA events, or other activities.
The field would remain available for community events and other neighborhood recreation.
The proposed amenity would provide:
- A place for younger children to learn and play with their parents
- Practice and pickup-game space for older children and teenagers
- Outdoor exercise and recreation for adults
- More opportunities for family connection and neighborhood friendships
- A flexible common space that can accommodate different sports and events
Addressing residents’ concerns
Safety:
The proposal includes commercial-grade goals, manufacturer-approved anchoring, posted rules prohibiting climbing or hanging, and regular visual safety reviews. Goals would be moved and re-anchored only by authorized personnel. Damaged equipment would be reported promptly and taken out of use when necessary.
Insurance and liability:
Insurance, safety, and liability considerations have been taken into account and would be formally confirmed through the HOA’s normal insurance, vendor, and approval process before equipment is purchased or installed.
Maintenance:
The wheel system would allow the HOA to move the goals for mowing, reduce turf wear, and accommodate other events. The plan also includes professional field lining, net maintenance, and routine visual reviews. Resident volunteers would report visible concerns, while authorized or qualified personnel would handle repairs, movement, installation, and re-anchoring.
Parking:
The field already has established parking rules and signage. Additional signs would direct users to designated parking at Charlene’s Field, helping prevent parking along neighborhood streets or in front of residents’ homes. No new parking area would be required.
Neighborhood use:
The proposal would not add lighting, extend existing amenity hours, or authorize outside leagues, tournaments, or commercial use. The space would remain a neighborhood amenity for Ladd Park residents and their guests.
Please show your support
This petition is intended to demonstrate resident support before the complete proposal is formally presented to the Ladd Park HOA Board.
Final placement, pricing, insurance, installation, maintenance, safety requirements, and use rules would still be reviewed before approval.
By signing, you are asking the Ladd Park HOA Board to formally consider, approve, and fund this safe, flexible, and long-lasting neighborhood amenity.
Together, we can give our children a play to play, grow, and build lasting memories. Let’s come together as a community and make a soccer field at Al’s Park a reality
