Baltimore School Police are hoping that after the public forum taking place this Thursday, they'll be given the green light to introduce a bill into the next General Assembly session to allow police to carry guns in schools. That is why we must come out this week and loudly state our opposition to this plan. We need to squash the effort before it gets too far. This is what you can do:
* If you are a parent of a Baltimore City Schools' student, complete this survey of the Parent and Community Advisory Board. They represent us. Let them know how we feel. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScRLscsa9r9tnsqircrYFaPogYyla8vFR-_6ZzrUB92SbPrsg/viewform
*Come to Thursday's School Board Forum. (https://www.baltimorecityschools.org/Page/31505 The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 200 E. North Avenue. Sign up to give testimony beginning 4:45 pm.
*Email policyreview@bcps.k12.md.us and let them know you oppose this policy change. There is no evidence to support that armed officers can prevent school shootings.
The last time we had to deal with this, the bill was officially pulled based on lack of community input. Baltimore School Police hopes this forum will check off the "community input" box and they can move forward with their agenda. Let's make our voice heard!
