Support Safe Abortion for sex workers in Lagos state

Support Safe Abortion for sex workers in Lagos state
The Issue
Who is affected?
Sex workers and marginalized women in Lagos face severe reproductive health risks due to illegality of abortion and lack of access to safe medical care.
Recent Studies show that 59.1% of sex workers in Lagos get pregnant while on the job, yet many are denied contraception and essential reproductive health services.
Due to the criminalization of abortion, 93.1% of these pregnancies are terminated through unsafe means, leading to serious complications such as infections, infertility, and even death. Many sex workers and marginalized women also report mistreatment, verbal abuse, or outright refusal of care when they visit hospitals.
What is at stake?
If this neglect continues, maternal deaths among sex workers and marginalized women will rise, and the cycle of unsafe abortions will persist. Without urgent intervention, thousands of women will continue to risk their lives due to a healthcare system that fails them.
Why is now the time to act?
Every day, sex workers and marginalized women in Lagos face life-threatening risks due to preventable reproductive health issues.
Training healthcare workers, expanding access to contraception, and ensuring safe, legal reproductive care for sex workers and marginalized women are necessary steps to end this crisis.
Sex workers and marginalized women deserve dignity, respect, and access to life-saving healthcare.
Sign this petition now to demand the urgent enforcement of medical guidelines that protect their reproductive rights, including the reinstatement of the Lagos State Safe Termination of Pregnancy Guidelines.
