Every call they answer is about survival and saving lives in our most critical moments!  Yet, our Las Vegas Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers at AMR and MedicWest are fighting their own battle for survival. The struggles they face every day are rooted not only in the life-threatening calls they run to, but also in the financial and professional insecurities that plague these essential workers.  

When my loved one faced a medical emergency, it was the AMR workers who showed up first. Every day these brave workers risk their lives to ensure the safety and well-being of others, my family member included. Despite their fierce dedication, they continue to be underappreciated, underpaid, and devoid of the basic right to organize for better conditions.

EMS workers are the backbone of community safety and health all over the country. However, far too often, their salaries do not come close to reflecting their skills or their critical importance to our communities! The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimate the median annual wage for EMTs and paramedics was $36,650 in May 2020, significantly lower than other emergency response roles. This wage gap proves there is a huge need for better financial policies and protective labor rights for EMS workers.

Without the protection of a strong contract, Las Vegas AMR workers remain vulnerable. They deserve fair wages, affordable healthcare, and job security, which ensures they can keep providing life-saving services without worrying about making their rent or taking their own family members to the doctor.
