The Issue

Raise the Progress Pride flag at CB East, South and West & at our district administrative building for Pride Month this June 2026 -- show us you care and want us to live and thrive! In the Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, PA, we have fought tirelessly as LGBTQ+ students and allies to make our schools a safer and more inclusive environment. For many years and reaching a community wide voice in 2022-2024, we organized and advocated against the mistreatment of LGBTQ+ students in our schools and the district's discriminatory policies and leadership. Some of those harmful policies were eventually suspended. However, the district's reluctance to raise the pride flag and their slow actions in supporting inclusive education and safe learning environments remain disheartening for LGBTQ+ students, staff and families.

The refusal for the past two years to raise pride flags at our three high schools and the district administrative building at Welden Drive during LGBTQ+ Pride Month sends a harmful message. The pride flags raised in local towns and other area school districts are not there for decoration - they are symbols of support, inclusion and justice for LGBTQ+ rights and lives. They tell LGBTQ+ students that we are cared for, believed and valued - and that our leaders want us to live and thrive. The pride flag is a recognition of the valuable contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals to our community and underscores the ongoing fight for visibility, justice, and equality.

The Central Bucks School District also demonstrated a concerning delay in returning previously banned books which explore LGBTQ+ themes to library shelves. A lack of inclusive education persists in all 23 district buildings, highlighting a need for continuous advocacy and visible support from community leaders.  Raising pride flags here in CBSD sends a clear message that we will work together to end the bullying, harassment and discrimination that LGBTQ+ students face here in CBSD.  And this more than a symbolic act; it is a beacon of hope for countless students who wish to see their identities validated and celebrated. By elevating these flags, we embolden a community of learners to embrace diversity, foster understanding, and celebrate the rich tapestry of human experiences in our district.

We implore the Central Bucks School District, the school board, our building principals and Superintendent to act now and make the decision to raise the progress pride flags on June 1st, the first day of Pride Month, and annually in recognition of Pride Month. As supporters of LGBTQ+ rights, we celebrate visible actions to protect, uplift, and recognize the lives of those who contribute so deeply to the vibrancy of our community.

Join us in standing strong for justice, equity, and visibility. Sign this letter to show your support for a more inclusive future in the Central Bucks School District. Together, let us champion a culture of belonging and care.
