The Hartmeyer Natural Area is the last remaining pre-settlement wetland in the City of Madison. It is home to many species of plants, animals, and insects who depend on the area for their survival. It is also a documented Native burial site. We support the goals of the Friends of Hartmeyer Natural Area and the Sherman Neighborhood Association to preserve the HNA as a Conservation Park with a functioning wetland/upland ecosystem and to keep it safe from any further human encroachment.  Any future development should not encourage human activity disruptive to wildlife or sacred sites in or near the HNA.
