Support Peace & Quiet in Cos Cob

The Issue

Whereas: The Declaration of Policy is that inadequately controlled noise presents a growing danger to the public health and welfare of persons within the Town of Greenwich and that the Policy of the Board of Health is to promote an environment free from noise that jeopardizes the health and welfare of persons within the Town of Greenwich;
Whereas: From November through March every year shotgun skeet shooting is conducted at Greenwich Country Club (GCC) located in a residential area of the Town of Greenwich every Saturday and Sunday for twelve (12) hours each week affecting thousands of residents;
Whereas: Such repeated, continuous and unabated gunfire at the rate of 10 to 50 shots per minute emitting sound at noise levels ranging from 60-100 decibels per shot is a breach of the peace, disturbing to the right of the peaceful and quiet habitation of residential premises and is detrimental to the health, welfare and wellbeing of residents ranging up to four miles of the GCC range.
Now, therefore, we the undersigned and taxpayers to the Town of Greenwich hereby petition the Town of Greenwich to immediately take such appropriate measures as may be necessary to HALT the skeet shooting practice within the Greenwich Country Club and its boundaries.
