Memphis is in crisis—and it’s time to act.

For years, violent crime has gripped this city. While some say rates are falling, too many families still live in fear. Too many lives have been lost. The numbers don’t tell the whole story. Every shooting, every carjacking, every life cut short is one too many.

Now, President Donald Trump has announced plans to send the National Guard and federal law enforcement to Memphis to restore peace and protect communities.

We believe this is the right move—and long overdue.

No parent should be afraid to let their child walk to school. No elderly neighbor should worry about leaving home after dark. No city should be known more for headlines about homicide than for hope.

Sending in the National Guard is not about politics—it’s about safety. It’s about stepping in when local and state resources are overwhelmed. Other cities that have received federal support have seen real results. D.C. saw major drops in carjackings and violent crime. Memphis deserves the same.

• President Trump to move forward with the National Guard deployment as planned
• Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to support federal assistance to secure Memphis neighborhoods
• City officials to coordinate with federal and military support to deliver safety for all residents
   

This is not a military occupation—it’s a public safety mission. It’s a call for peace in our streets and accountability for those terrorizing our communities.
