Support Na Hānai Hale mission!
The Issue
//Proposal & argument//:
We believe to better support the community and children of Hawai’i, it is important for us to refocus our attention of those children who are less fortunate. One step in doing so is converting the governors home (hale Kia’aina) which was built by Gov. Cayetano into a home for the children of Hawai’i. While Washington place still serves as the official residence of the governor as well as the location of all executive duties we believe the other mansion can serve a better purpose to the community at large especially the children of these islands.
//Orphanage of Hawai’i - Home of Hawai’i//
(2,766 children are in foster care in Hawai’i)
The reason for building the orphanage is to honor Queen Liliuokalani herself; having no children of her own she dedicated a portion of her life to taking care of other children and raising adopted children of her own. It isn't just right but fitting for this home to be for the children of Hawai’i and not the governors.
The home however should be a unique one; where native and non children are taught hawaiian values and are raised in light to be pillars of the community; whereas they, even despite whatever situation they may be in the Home of hawai’i will take care of them to the fullest extent; and the hope that other organizations such as Kamehameha schools will offer their support in helping raise these children.
NOTE:
The goal of this is not to change the historic building (the main building) but the new mansion built in the back to accommodate the Governor.
//Personal statement//
It is in my dearest hope and efforts that the children of hawai’i in need of a good home may find one. I believe that with our best efforts we can bring these children the hope and help they need; and in doing so Honor our late Queen Lilioukalani.

"IN 1847, WASHINGTON PLACE AROSE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF HONOLULU—THE NEW CAPITOL OF THE HAWAIIAN KINGDOM, THEN RULED BY KING KAMEHAMEHA III, SON OF KAMEHAMEHA THE GREAT.....
Washington Place is perhaps best known as the home of Queen Liliuokalani who arrived at the elegant mansion in 1862, as the young bride of John Owen Dominis, son of the captain. It would remain her residence for 55 years, a home she fondly described as:
“…a large, square, white house, with pillars and porticos on all sides, really a palatial dwelling, as comfortable in its appointments as it is inviting in its aspect…a choice tropical retreat in the midst of the chief city of the Hawaiian Islands."
