Support More Cooling Centers in Dallas to Prevent Heat Exhaustion Deaths in Dallas
The Issue
As temperatures soar across North Texas, too many families are being left without a safe place to escape the deadly heat. Right now, Dallas has only a few official cooling centers—and they're not enough to protect residents in the neighborhoods most at risk.
Low-income communities are often the hardest hit during heat waves. Many homes don’t have reliable air conditioning, and rising energy costs make it impossible for some families to cool their homes. Seniors, young children, and people with health conditions are especially vulnerable.
The City of Dallas must act now to open more cooling centers in underserved ZIP codes and extend their hours during the hottest parts of the day. These centers aren’t just a comfort—they’re a lifeline.
We’re calling on Dallas city leaders to expand cooling center access before it’s too late. Everyone deserves a safe place to stay cool—no matter their income or zip code.
