The Issue

Right now, Texas farms are facing a crisis. Crops are going unharvested and families are struggling to stay afloat — not because of drought or pests, but because there aren’t enough workers to bring food from field to table.

U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz has introduced a bill that could help: it would raise wages for migrant farmworkers, make the process easier for farmers, and allow workers to switch jobs within the state without risking deportation. It’s a step toward dignity, safety, and stability — for the people who feed us, and the farmers who rely on them.

This is a Texas issue with national consequences. Nearly 80% of farmworkers in areas like Hidalgo County are undocumented — hardworking people now terrified to show up to work due to crackdowns. Without action, the food supply weakens, farms close, and communities suffer.

We can’t afford to keep looking away. Sign this petition to show lawmakers that Texans — and Americans — support smart, humane, and fair solutions to the farm labor shortage. Let’s make sure those who feed us can work safely, legally, and with dignity.
