The Issue

I have lived in New York City my whole life. This city is my home, and I am proud of the diverse and vibrant place it is. However, recent events have stirred a sense of concern and urgency within me. A small, yet loud, fraction of our community is attempting to exclude Mayor Mandami from the sacred 9/11 Memorial event, citing reasons that are steeped in discriminatory beliefs. This goes against everything that New Yorkers stand for.

The 9/11 Memorial is a symbol of resilience, unity, and remembrance for all who suffered and continue to suffer due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It is a day that commemorates not only those we lost but also the courage and compassion that emerged from the darkness. To let hate overshadow such an important day would be a disservice to our city and its values.

Mayor Mandami represents a New York that we should all aspire towards: inclusive, forward-thinking, and united. His leadership embodies the spirit of diversity and resilience that has allowed our city to thrive in the face of adversity. To exclude him from this event due to prejudice would be a betrayal of the very principles that hold New Yorkers together.

According to a recent survey, the majority of New Yorkers believe in the importance of coming together as a community, regardless of race, religion, or background, especially on a day like 9/11. It is evident that the city stands against any form of racism or discrimination, and this is the message we need to reinforce at the Memorial event.

We call upon those in decision-making positions to ensure Mayor Mandami is present at the 9/11 Memorial, where he rightfully belongs. His presence would not only honor the memories of those we lost but would also stand as a testament to the strength and unity of our city. Standing together, we send a clear message: hate will not define us.

Join me in signing this petition to let Mayor Mandami know that decent, non-racist New Yorkers want him to be part of the 9/11 Memorial. Let us celebrate his rightful place in our city's fabric, and acknowledge the diversity that makes New York a beacon of hope and resilience.
