A few important notes after an update on the Keyano Theatre FB page:
- This petition is in support of the continued operation of Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre as is, it's not a petition created by Keyano Theatre.
- The main theatre, dressing rooms and the shop space are scheduled to continue operating at this time. See below image for the affected spaces (marked in pink).
- The Recital Theatre, dance tank, and printmaking studio (plus a few other studios) have already been transformed into classrooms in the past year.
- If you're planning on donating, please consider making a donation directly to Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre instead of Change.org. Click here to donate to Keyano Theatre.
If these studios were to close and the arts continue to be dismantled and cancelled, it would have disastrous consequences for the arts community in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. Sign this petition to let Keyano College, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and the provincial government know how important Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre is to you, our community, and our region!

DON'T LET THE CURTAIN CLOSE ON KEYANO THEATRE & ARTS CENTRE!
Show your support for the continued operations of Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre and their community theatre productions, the preservation of crucial arts spaces within the centre such as studios, rehearsal spaces, costume, props and set shops and storage, and the retention of trained technical theatre staff.
As a vital pillar of the Wood Buffalo community, Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre stands as a priceless asset in fostering the rich tapestry of performance arts in our region and acts as a hub for many community groups for rehearsals, classes, performances, and more. It is a place where thousands of Wood Buffalo residents have found a home and a community. The plans to close these arts spaces are devastating and pose a serious threat to the arts in our region.
Several studies and surveys have shown that performance arts spaces available to the public in Wood Buffalo are almost non-existent, and many independent community arts organizations and artists would be unable to continue their programming and practices without Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre.
People of all ages and walks of life find their home and sense of belonging here, and nothing else like it exists in our region.
The Keyano Theatre Company community productions have been engaging countless volunteers for over 30 years, and their shows are enjoyed by thousands of community members annually. Without the Arts Centre, producing these shows will be very difficult, and one of the only places local artists have an opportunity to perform, grow, and connect will be lost. The specialized theatre spaces in the Arts Centre, such as the costume shop and storage facilities, properties and set shops, and studio and rehearsal space, serve as a ground for creative innovation, development and sustainability for performing arts in our region for all ages.
The artists and volunteers involved in KTC productions become the ones to continue to build the arts in Wood Buffalo, and for many, it’s a primary reason why they choose to call this region home.
Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre is the heartbeat of art in our region and fosters an environment that nurtures the talents of our community, ensuring a legacy of cultural richness, and creating a place where Wood Buffalo residents of all ages can thrive and belong.
