Support Justice for Teacher D. Shirisha: Advocate for Student Welfare and Professional Int
The Issue
To the CM of Telangana, Secretary - Education Department of Telangana, DSE Telangana, DEO Khammam, and other Education Department Officials, Parents, and Concerned Citizens,
We, the undersigned, stand united in support of Ms. D. Shirisha, a dedicated and award-winning teacher of English at Zilla Parishad Secondary School (ZPSS) Peruvancha, Kalluru Mandal, Khammam district. Ms. Shirisha has consistently demonstrated her commitment to her students' welfare and holistic development. Recently, her efforts to ensure students present themselves well by trimming their hair for a more disciplined appearance have been met with an unjust suspension.
Ms. Shirisha’s intentions were rooted in the desire to enhance her students' self-esteem and overall demeanour. Her actions reflect a broader concern for student behaviour and presentation, aiming to instil a sense of discipline and pride in their appearance. This initiative was not intended to harm but to support and uplift the students, aligning with her long-standing commitment to their well-being.
We believe that the suspension of Ms. Shirisha is a disproportionate response that overlooks her dedication and the positive impact she has had on her students and the school community. Instead of punitive measures, we urge the authorities to recognize her efforts and intentions as part of her holistic approach to education.
We, therefore, call upon the relevant educational authorities and stakeholders to:
Revoke the suspension of Ms. D. Shirisha immediately and reinstate her to her teaching position at ZPSS Peruvancha.
Acknowledge her actions' context and positive intent, focusing on student welfare and discipline.
Engage in a constructive dialogue about appropriate and supportive disciplinary measures that align with educational goals and student well-being.
Provide additional support and resources for teachers who take proactive steps to address student behavior and presentation issues constructively.
Urge the government to establish clear policies and guidelines regarding discipline protocols in schools, ensuring that actions taken by teachers in the interest of student welfare are supported and guided by well-defined standards.
Ms. Shirisha’s commitment to her students is exemplary, and her actions should be viewed in the light of her dedication to fostering an environment where students can thrive both academically and personally. We urge all concerned to join us in supporting her reinstatement and advocating for fair treatment of educators who go above and beyond for their students.
Together, let us ensure that our teachers are supported, respected, and empowered to continue their invaluable work in shaping the future of our children.
