Hello -

I am a District 14 resident that lives in the Vickery Place neighborhood of Dallas, Tx. I am a proud Texan and an even prouder Dallasite. Unfortunately as a skateboarder there is a large void of quality skatepark amenities in the City of Dallas (there are no modern skateparks in the city). Dallas is the largest municipality in the country that currently does not have a skatepark available for our young adults and enthusiasts that call the city home. According to a 2016 survey the city should have at least 18 skatepark amenities to cover the recreational demand. 

Glencoe park is the closest park to where I live (a short walk from my home, even shorter if i skate there). If a skatepark was built here I would no longer have to drive 30+ minutes and add unnecessary CO2 to the atmosphere to participate in an activity that fundamentally makes me who I am today. I am a young professional who owes everything to skateboarding and the lessons it taught me. I feel the next generation of Dallas' youth deserve the same opportunity.

There is a small group currently doing everything they can to paint a potential skatepark as a negative impact on the neighborhood. I strongly feel by raising awareness and sharing our stories we can prove what a great feature this would be at Glencoe Park.

Skateparks bring ALL people together, act as social equity vehicles for the community & a positive space for mentoring the youth. Skateparks have come so far from the negative stigma these boomers are trying to portray them as! Please sign this petition, leave a positive comment and let’s get this skatepark built!
