Everyone deserves a chance at a healthy life. But 1.5 million children still die each year - one in every 20 seconds - from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is on a mission to change this. Over the next five years, they aim to immunise 500 million children, making a significant impact on global health. However, this ambitious plan requires substantial investment.

Since 2000, Gavi has helped immunise  over 1 billion children, saving 17.3 million lives and bringing economic benefits estimated at AUD$330 billion to the countries they support. In 2021 alone, Gavi helped immunise nearly 65 million children against diseases like measles, polio, and pneumonia. A child born in a Gavi-supported country is 70 per cent less likely to die before their fifth birthday from vaccine-preventable diseases than when the Alliance was founded in 2000.

Australia has been a strong supporter of Gavi, contributing AUD$366 between 2021 and 2025. This support has protected millions of children from deadly diseases and strengthened health systems in some of the world's poorest regions. Now, more than ever, our continued commitment is vital.

Continued support for Gavi’s mission will help save millions of lives, building on the 17.3 million lives already saved through Gavi’s efforts and reinforce Australia’s commitment to a healthier and more equitable world.
