Support Frederick Community College Faculty Union

The Issue

Dear Frederick Community College President and Board of Trustees,

We are writing to express our hope that FCC will negotiate a fair collective bargaining agreement with its full-time faculty union.

As community members and partners in building a thriving broader Frederick County, we want our current and future neighbors, employees, service and care providers, and family members to receive the best possible education at our local community college. We know that requires faculty to have just working conditions and a protected voice. We see public education across the country facing existential threats to funding and academic freedom and count on our faculty to stand as stalwarts of the public good. We recognize that when their voice is not heard, our students suffer.

We ask that you use your authority to protect present and future faculty power. Please direct your designees at the bargaining table to collaborate with the union to create a contract that codifies ongoing faculty voice and shared governance.  Only with faculty input on curriculum and course design, hiring and promotion, department and program development, workload, and other key tenets of shared governance can we have faith in the institution to continue to serve our students with the dedication and integrity we have relied on for decades.

We pledge to continue to raise our voices in support of the faculty members of Frederick Community College as they elevate professional working conditions in an enduring collective bargaining agreement.
