Dear students and community allies of the Frederick Community College Faculty,
Thank you sincerely for the support you have shown us so far in our effort to secure fair and transparent working conditions for faculty. Following our rally two weeks ago, we have made significant progress on shared governance! That said, our Chairs are still under threat and need our help.
We ask our community supporters and allies to attend the FCC Board of Directors meeting next Wednesday, 9/18, from 4:30-5PM and to sit on the floor to show our administration what the college looks like without Chairs.
Faculty Chairs are a critical part of our current college structure, providing essential support and direction to our departments. The administration is in the process of designing a restructuring plan to eliminate this position. Faculty are concerned that an expedited reorganization of Chair work without meaningful faculty input could remove many of the key strengths of our current system and create major disruptions to student learning and college processes. Our union views these threats to faculty’s role in our departments as directly in opposition to our demands for bolstered shared governance, and as an educational crisis for our students.
Please join us in showing our administration that students and community members are united in wanting faculty to have a protected voice and role in the leadership of our departments and programs.
In solidarity,
UAMD-FCC
