There was a great turn out last night at Walsh MS. I was there to listen to the concerns of everyone in that neighborhood. I'd like to recap the major themes I heard.
The majority of speakers were those from Old Town Elementary who would be split from their neighbors. I am very sympathetic to these families and we, your RR West neighbors, are actively reaching out to work together.
I want to address a misperception I heard last night. The proposed plan from CTMS is not in opposition to the plan that Old Town presented. In fact, I think they are very much aligned. We are looking into merging our plans together and joining forces.
I think Old Town made a strong case that Walsh utilization problems will organically level out in the next few years even if you keep all of Old Town feeding into Walsh. The CTMS plan did not account for this only due to lack of time to put our knowledge together. I'm personally working with leaders from The Woods to align on this. I continue to believe that if we present a plan to the district that all neighborhoods agree on then we won't be denied.
We also continue to hear from parents in the North Woods at Avery Ranch. They were astute enough to figure out that they could be part of our solution too by filling Pearson and indirectly making the case that Old Town can stay at Walsh to make room for them (it's an indirect link but it's legit).
Last, we've also heard from Wells Branch. I connected with some parents there to try to incorporate their feedback into the alternate plan as well.
The public hearings might be over but hearing from the public isn't!!!
In fact, we continue to gain momentum and build bridges between neighborhoods, the district, and trustees. Please continue to share this petition. If additional neighborhoods want to get involved please contact me.
Finally, I continue to believe that it's not "us vs. them" and that there is a workable solution right in front of us based on the data. It's just a matter of communication, time, and effort.
Thanks!

P.S. - I'm not the only one from RR West working on this. I'm just the one writing these updates. There is a small team of active parents involved and I don't want to take more credit than I deserve. If we are going to succeed it's going to be a team effort across the district.
