The Issue

Plainville's remaining open spaces and natural lands are limited, and we are at risk of losing them.

These areas provide:

  • Clean air and water through healthy forests, wetlands, and aquifers
  • Habitat for wildlife and biodiversity
  • Trails, scenic views, and recreational opportunities that improve quality of life
  • Protection from flooding and climate impacts

If  these lands are rezoned and developed or quarried,  they are lost forever. No amount of restoration or planning can replace what was once natural, wild, and open.

We call on local leaders, commissions, and boards to:

  • Reject rezoning efforts that threaten our remaining open and natural spaces.
  • Prioritize conservation and recreation in alignment with Plainville’s Plan of Conservation and Development.
  • Preserve Plainville’s future by ensuring decisions made today honor the rights of residents tomorrow.

Open spaces are vital for the ecological balance, offering habitat for wildlife and contributing to cleaner air and water. According to the Trust for Public Land, parks and green spaces improve water quality, naturally manage stormwater, reduce air pollution, enhance community health, provide recreational opportunities, attract and retain businesses, and support economic development.

We urge the town of Plainville to assess potential parcels of land that can be converted into public open spaces. Prioritizing land conservation will serve our community now and in the future.

By signing and supporting this petition, you are advocating for a proactive approach to land management that reserves space for parks, nature trails, and ecological reserves.

Will you join us in protecting our environment?
