Support Equitable Funding for Our Latine Graduation Celebration

The Issue

Over the years, ASG has reduced the budget allocated for the Latine graduation celebration. The celebration is meant to recognize the achievements, culture, and community of Latine students. This decision was made without meaningful input from the students and organizations directly impacted.

At the same time, our institution proudly identifies as an “emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).” This designation should reflect a genuine commitment to supporting Latine students, not just in words, but through consistent and equitable resource allocation.

We are being asked to “make ends meet” with less, once again. This expectation places an unfair burden on students to compensate for institutional shortcomings. Cultural celebrations like this are not optional because they are essential spaces of recognition, belonging, and pride.

We call on ASG and USD leadership to:

Restore and protect full funding for the Latine graduation celebration
Include student voices in funding discussions that directly affect our communities
Align institutional actions with its stated commitment to becoming an HSI
We deserve more than symbolic support. We deserve the resources necessary to fully and equitably celebrate our community.

Sign this petition to stand in support of Latine students and demand accountability, transparency, and meaningful change.
